More than 280 runners and walkers took part on Sunday in Ellen's Run, an annual charity 5K, to raise money in memory of Ellen Vala Schneider.

This past Sunday, more than 280 runners and walkers participated in Ellen's Run, an annual charity 5K in Chevy Chase. Nicholas McGrievy, 16, (16:48) finished first overall. Ava Farell, 17, (18:54) repeated as the top female finisher. 

The race is named for Ellen Vala Schneider, a dedicated volunteer and longtime resident of Chevy Chase. According to race organizer Carole Brand, the event raises money for the B-CC High School Community Scholarship Fund and the Mental Health Association of Montgomery County. Schneider served as chairwoman of the scholarship fund and was on the board of the mental heath association.
