Get Out: Patch Picks for the Weekend of Feb. 3

This weekend: live music, foreign cinema, a Prokofiev puppet show, a free yoga class and a winter carnival for children.

 

The Puppet Co.: Peter and the Wolf

Where/When: Glen Echo Park (7300 MacArthur Blvd., Glen Echo, MD). Friday, Feb. 3, at 10 and 11:30 a.m.; and Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 4 and 5, at 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. Performances continue through Sunday, Feb. 19.

Why Go: The Puppet Co. presents its production of Sergei Prokofiev's musical score Peter and The Wolf. This adaptation was written by puppeteers Christopher Piper and Len Piper.

Price: $10 (Purchase tickets online at The Puppet Co.'s website.)

 

Foreign Film: "King of Masks"

Where/When: Chevy Chase Library (8005 Connecticut Ave., Chevy Chase, MD). Saturday, Feb. 4, at 1 p.m.

Why Go: See the film about a Chinese mask maker who wants his art to endure, and who takes on a destitute child as an apprentice. Film critic Roger Ebert calls it "a new Chinese film of simplicity, beauty and surprising emotional power."

Price: Free.

 

Winterfest Children's Carnival

Where/When: Learning Center for Young Children at the Warner Memorial Presbyterian Church (10123 Connecticut Ave., Kensington, MD). Saturday, Feb. 4, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Why Go: Find fun for the whole family at the carnival. Highlights will include: two performances by acclaimed children's musician John Henry England (tickets to these performances will be sold for $5 at the carnival), a silent auction, a moon bounce, a children's craft room, carnival games, face painting, a bake sale and lunch served by Armand's Pizzeria & Grille.

Proceeds from the carnival will be used to purchase educational and play supplies for the preschool at the Learning Center for Young Children.

Price: All activities are free, with the exception of the musical performances, which are $5 each.

 

Planet Trombley at The Barking Dog

Where/When: The Barking Dog (4723 Elm St., Bethesda, MD). Saturday, Feb. 4, from 9 p.m. to midnight.

Why Go: Enjoy a night of blues, rock and alternative tunes by Jack Stripling (lead vocals), Richard Hsu (keys/vocals), Bill Trombley (vocals, guitar, bass), Paul South (lead guitar) and Skip Daly (drums). Read more about the event on Facebook.

Price: No cover charge.

 

Free Yoga Class

Where/When: extendYoga (12106 Wilkins Ave., North Bethesda, MD). Sunday, Feb. 5, at 11 a.m. (Free yoga classes continue on Sundays at extendYoga at 11 a.m. through April.)

Why Go: Enjoy a free yoga class.

Price: Free.
